Basic Wheel Throwing with Patrick Rowe
Thursdays, May 2-23 from 9:30am – 12:00pm

This four-week class will introduce students to the fundamentals of working on the wheel. The focus will be on basics; cylinders, bowls and plates. Techniques for centering, opening, and pulling up clay will be covered. No prior wheel experience is required. $200 plus a $25 materials fee which includes 4 weeks of instruction, a $25 materials fee which includes clay, glazes, and firing. Thursdays, May 16, 23, 30 and June 6th from 1:30 – 4:00pm

Come explore the magic of wheel throwing in this beginner pottery class. In the first two classes, we will focus on learning the process of making cylinders and bowls on the wheel. In the last two classes, we will focus on using sgraffito and surface design on our wheel thrown pieces. *Leanne Pizio has over 20 years experience as a ceramic artist and potter. She enjoys creating art about life, animals, birds, kings and queens, fairy tales, and the like. She specializes in the sgraffito technique where a layer of slip is brushed onto the surface of the pottery, allowed to dry, then carved with designs to show the raw clay underneath. Sgraffito derives from an Italian word meaning “to scratch.”.
